Fall Maintenance Checklist for Landscaping Your Commercial Properties

fall maintenance checklist

As a business owner, you know how essential it is to maintain the property’s commercial landscaping to improve your curb appeal and make a good impression. One way to do this is to create a fall maintenance checklist to follow each year.

Here’s our fall maintenance checklist for outdoor landscaping:

Gather Leaves and Replace Mulch

There’s no question that many leaves will fall during the season. Survey the yard and be on the lookout for fallen leaves and other debris such as twigs and branches. Gather all the fallen leaves from garden beds and around trees.

Now is also an ideal time to replace any mulch that might be in the landscaping. Remove the old mulch and replace it with fresh mulch. This will help protect the trees during winter.

Trim Trees, Shrubs, and Plants

Proper tree and shrub trimming will help your plants grow tall and strong. If there are regulations for how tall or wide the trees on your commercial property can be, then now is also a good time to trim them to their allowed size. Keep in mind that certain types of trees will need to be pruned during other seasons to ensure good health.

Shrubs will need regular trimming as well, but they’ll also need a proper irrigation system to ensure they thrive throughout fall and into winter. Shrubs are essential for hiding unattractive large HVAC systems and other structures a commercial property might have. Take good care of them by knowing what type of shrubs they are and what type of care they require.

Thicken the Turf

Fall is a good time to aerate the turf to reduce the risk of soil compaction. You should also over-seed to now thicken the turf. This will help prepare it for the harsh winter months.

Then use fertilizer to fertilize the lawn. If the property has any artificial turf, then you’ll want to deep clean it during this time.

Treat and Remove Weeds

As you’re surveying the lawn, keep an eye out for signs of weeds. Spray the weeds and remove them as needed. When removing weeds, you should pull them out of the ground.

Pulling the roots of the weeds out of the ground will prevent them from growing back.
